Prof Indra Nath Choudhuri: The other Asia and the New Asia

On Saturday 4 August at 2.30pm, we are delighted to announce that Professor Indra Nath Choudhuri will be talking at The Tagore Centre UK on: The conflict between the other Asia and the New Asia: Rabindranath Tagore, Liang Qichao andKakuzo (Tenshin) Okakura and the Politics of Friendship and a love story.
Professor Choudhuri is an academic and author on subjects as diverse as Comparative Literature, Aesthetics and Religion, written in Hindi and in English. He is a Professor who has graced various academic faculties in India, Europe and the UK. He has also been a distinguished Cultural Ambassador for India.
For the lecture on Saturday 4 August 2018 it is relevant to note that he was invited by The Lu Xun Cultural Foundation of China to participate in their 5-day conference in the universities in Beijing, Shanghai and Shaoxing to speak on Tagore and Lu Xun in 2016.
He delivered three lectures:
- ‘China’s image in Tagore’s Work’;
- ‘Where to situate Lu Xun in the conflict between the other Asia and the New Asia and Rabindranath Tagore and Liang Qichao and a detailed analysis of the virulent opposition of Tagore during his visit to China in 1924’;
- ‘Tagore and Lu Xun as transnational writers.’
We are indeed honoured that he has agreed to deliver a talk at the Centre.
