Tagore's songs translated into English by Anjali Sen - presented by Dr Deepali Gaskell... followed by music from Ritu Adhikari

Mrs Anjali Sen has a double MA in History and 'Ancient History with Art and Architecture' and has had the opportunity to study under scholars like Dr Nihar Ranjan Roy and Stella Kramrisch. These translations will be followed by Rabindrasangeet by Ritu Adhikari. 

Born and bred in England, Ritu Adhikari was trained in Rabindrasangeet from an early age. Her musical journey began in Delhi where she lived for five years between the ages of 9 and 14.

In July 2008, she received a diploma in Rabindrasangeet from Dakshinee, Kolkata. Ritu also started playing the piano at the tender age of six and passed her Grade 8 in 2001. Bringing together her Eastern and Western musical training, she plays Rabindrasangeet on the piano.

Bengali songs by Sonali Ray (Canada)
Sunday 29 May 2011 
Sonali sings classical, semi classical and different genres of Bengali songs with equal proficiency.  Her versatility in Bengali songs ranges from Rabindrasangeet, Dwijendrageeti, and Nazrulgeeti to Ragpradhan and Tappa. Her husband Anjan Ghosh will accompany her on the tabla.

Introduced by Lalit Mohan Joshi, Indian film historian, film critic and editor of the thematic journal South Asian Cinema. Lalit is currently the Director of London-based films organisation the South Asian Cinema Foundation (SACF).

Rabindrasangeet by Sahana Bajpaie
Sunday 27 March, 3 pm
Sahana, who was born and brought up in Santiniketan, has trained in Rabindrasangeet since the age of three. She has released an album: Notun Kore Pabo Boley from Bengal Music Company, Dhaka in 2007. Since 1995 she has performed extensively in Germany, UK, Bangladesh and India.

Suchitra Mitra: a documentary directed by Raja Sen.

This will be The Tagore Centre UK’s tribute to Suchitra Mitra who sadly passed away in January this year. The film was the Rajat Kamal Winner in the Arts & Culture category in 1992. It also won the National Awards in four different categories; Production, Direction, Cinematography and Processing.
